The District of Stewart has made significant progress over the last five years through conscious and concerted effort to attract investors and boost the Northwest British Columbia economy. Initiatives by the District have focused on attracting manufacturers and industrial facilities based on competitive advantages through lower taxes, uncongested highways, and connection to the rest of the world through a new world-class marine port – Stewart World Port. A $70-million deepsea terminal in Stewart opened in September 2015 and unveiled its first customer. In 2017 the District of Stewart signed a strategic cooperation partnerships to work together in the development of Canada-China Natural Resources Industrial Park. Through export of LNG (35 f million ton/year), Potash (10 million ton/year), wood, minerals, agricultural products, seafood, glacier water, etc from Stewart to China will help Canada to add $30 – 40 billion to its export volume to China each year.
