How It Works

It's a four-stage process with rewards at every step.

It's About Recognition.

The Small Business BC Awards recognizes the contributions and achievements of BC small business owners – entrepreneurs just like you.

This isn’t your average awards competition! While the SBBC Awards are free to enter, the experience is priceless. All nominees receive valuable business education and support throughout the competition. And the farther you get, the more your business benefits!

Participating is also a great way to expose your business to valuable new marketing and PR opportunities. If your business is shortlisted or wins a category, the potential for media coverage is huge. Past finalists have been featured on Global News, The Vancouver Sun, The Globe and Mail and Forbes Magazine, to name just a few!

And There Are Great Prizes Too!

If you win, you’ll receive a cash prize of $1,500, a one-year All-Access Pass to Small Business BC education and experts,  business mentorship from the award sponsor and the honour of being named a top BC small business!

If you’re looking for a unique way to show off your small business, while getting valuable support and building priceless connections, nominate your business today.

Or if there’s a BC small business you love, now’s your chance to let them know – nominate that business today.

Step 1

Nominations & Voting

October 1 – November 30, 2020

Call on Your Community.

Nominate your business or a business you love for the Small Business BC Awards from October 1st to November 30th.

The Small Business BC Awards contest is open to all new and existing businesses registered in BC with fewer than 50 employees. Businesses can be nominated in as many award categories as they’re eligible for.

Collect Votes.

Once your business is nominated, you’ll have until November 30th to get as many votes as possible. The Top 10 businesses with the most votes in each award category will move on to the next stage of the contest. So let your customers, employees and colleagues know about your nomination.

Brag about your business through social media, e-mail and on-site promotions. You’re proud of what you’ve accomplished – let people know and encourage them to show their support by voting for you.

Step 2

Top 10 Semi-Finals

December 2020 – January 2021

Show Us What You’ve Got.

So you rallied the support of your community, gathered enough votes and made it through to the Top 10? The next stage is to let our judges know what makes your business the best.

Semi-final Application

As a Top 10 finalist you’ll be given one month to provide our expert panel of judges a more detailed application outlining why you deserve to win the award. These applications will be assessed to narrow down competition to the Top 5 finalists.

Step 3

Top 5 Finals

February, 2021
Presentation Pitch Judges

Present Your Pitch.

You’ve proven that your business is amazing and now you’ll have to sell our panel of business experts on why you should be named the best in BC.

You’ll be required to make a ten minute pitch explaining why your business trumps the other finalists in your category. If you can convince the judges that your business really is the best, then you’ll be selected as the winner.

Pitches will be held at Small Business BC in Vancouver, but if you’re from another community, you can always present your pitch over Skype.

Step 4

Awards Gala

Win the Award!

Network and Celebrate with BC’S Best!

BC’s small business owners know how to work hard…and have fun! The Small Business BC Awards Gala is an evening to celebrate BC’s small business entrepreneurs. And, of course, to find out who will be honoured with a Small Business BC Award.

Each winner will be recognized with a cash prize in the amount of $1,500,  a one-year all-access pass to Small Business BC education resources and experts, business mentorship from the award sponsor and the opportunity for extensive media exposure.
