UrsaSol is an Indigenous owned and operated technology company whose mission is to bring affordable and professional tech services to the Indigenous nonprofit and corporate sectors. The owners, who had previously worked in the Indigenous nonprofit sector, specifically the Friendship Centre Movement, had seen a lack of presence for Indigenous organizations in the online landscape. Hearing many Centre’s need for more technological supports, Brendan asked his brother Nigel and his friend Josh, both computer programmers, if they would start a part-time venture doing web jobs for Indigenous nonprofits. Over the next year, the business became popular and profitable, and the team, some of whom were still in school, had to work more hours each week. In December of 2018, the team started on the business full time, which was difficult as two team members were finishing their last semester of schooling. Now, the whole team works full-time, providing numerous tech services to Indigenous groups.
