Heidi Romich has been a proponent, promoter and driving force of training and apprenticeships in the community of restaurateurs, both here in Cranbrook and in the province. Her establishment is well-respected for quality of food and service. She has five Red Seal chefs employed there and has been highly instrumental in their training.
Her involvement with ITA is lengthy, and includes one of the first successful challenges of the revised ITA standards in 1991 – an individual (still employed by her) had worked years in the industry, performing the tasks of an Executive Chef, but had not been able to pass the written exam.
ITA instituted a challenge process where a prospective Chef could be given an oral exam, observed at work through a # of days and preparations. She has also for many years been an integral part of the instruction and operations team with the College of the Rockies Culinary Arts Program where her expertise and support of the training has been invaluable.
